Wanting to lead a more organised lifestyle? Fortunately, being organised is something you can constantly learn and improve on. And what do you know, you’re already making a first step in the right direction by reading this blog!

For those of you who struggle with disorganisation in your work life, personal life, social life (or all of the above), these are our 6 handy tips to getting on top of it!

Write to-do lists

Who doesn’t love a good to-do list?! Sometimes, getting your thoughts and tasks out on paper is the easiest, quickest and most efficient fix. That visual aid will really help guide you in the right direction. You can make a to-do list for each day, listing the tasks in order of importance. You can also categorise your to-do lists, writing one for work, for personal admin and for grocery shopping. The opportunities are endless!

Clean as you go

We once heard of a really great tip that we think needs to be shared! Incorporate a 2-minute rule into your daily living. What do we mean exactly? Well, the idea is that if something takes 2 minutes or less to complete, don’t leave it until later. Get on top of it while you’re already there!

For example, doing the dishes. If you have a quick snack and use a single plate, wash it up as soon as you’re done. This ensures you don’t have dirty dishes around and piling up, making it a bigger task at the end of the day. This kind of mentality can really help improve the organisation and cleanliness of your home, from putting away your clothes and washing, to keeping the kitchen benches clean and your makeup drawer organised.

Make your bed when you wake up

You may not have heard of the 2-minute rule, but chances are you would have heard of the quote: “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.” This quote holds so much power for a reason!

If you begin your day by making the bed, that is one task of the day achieved. It can give you that small sense of pride to encourage you to complete tasks throughout the rest of the day. Before you know it, you’ll have ticked off your entire list! Start small with the goals, and work your way up. It works a charm.

Keep only what you need

A decluttered space equals a decluttered mind, they say! The key to decluttering is to keep only what you need. Ensure you’re throwing away boxes and packaging that’ll serve no purpose other than to sit in your cupboard for years untouched. Do a clean out of your wardrobe to make room for more storage space. Throw out old notepads and broken pens.

Plan meals in advance

Keeping organised with your meals is a great way to organise your days in general. By having your meals planned out and your groceries sorted for the week, you will have more time on your hands to complete other tasks! Not to mention, getting all your week’s groceries in one go will help you budget, too. Try meal prepping, or signing up to a meal delivery service.

Set deadlines

Create structure to your days, weeks and months by setting deadlines. It’s not an easy thing to do, especially when you’re relying on yourself as the pressure (e.g. working from home or running a freelance business). However, it’s a necessary thing! Deadlines will help you smash your goals and keep on smashing them. Perhaps offer yourself a reward for meeting deadlines. It really makes the difference!
