Read our exclusive interview with the Creative Director of Carmakoma, Heidie Lykke, and find out what inspires her, who she'd love to see wearing their designs and what's to come with Carmakoma at Evans...
Carmakoma is driven by an unprejudiced joy of fashion. We wanted to design clothes which provided curvy women a new fashion experience and showed their beautiful bodies in a way that accentuates their personalities.
The Carmakoma woman is strong, independent and in love with fashion. She is playing with her individuality and radiates her positive energy in an exploration of new fashion trends. She doesn’t let other people define her or her style and is determined to control her own destiny. She can’t be pigeonholed and loves to try new things!
We get inspiration from almost everything! It could be a great song, a fun video, a fashion trend or just walking around the streets in one of our favourite cities. We meet women everywhere who fascinate us and tell stories that we adapt to an individual mood or design. Women are an endless source of inspiration to us, whether they’re a rock chick, sexy or soft and feminine.
We have great respect for Evans and the many years of experience that Evans has working with plus size women. Therefore, we see great synergy developing between Evans and Carmakoma. We also believe that Carmakoma can give Evans some rock chick attitude! We have experienced and seen great passion from the team at Evans. Passion is the foundation behind Carmakoma - our concept, our brand and not least our customers - and we always love to work with passionate people.
Every time we see a woman in Carmakoma we are so proud and happy. We create styles that we believe in and it is always great to get positive feedback from our customers. Our muses change however, our very first muse was Beth Ditto. We still respect her a lot and it would be a great honour to see her in a Carmakoma outfit.
We are very into matching, coordinating items - like a top and skirt in matching colours and fabrics. I would style them with contrasting shoes to create a really on trend look.
The most important thing for feeling confident is to make sure that your outfit brings out your personality and makes you feel good while doing it. It also helps to consider which part of your body you like the most. Style your outfit to accentuate that part and it will give you the best confidence boost!
